Former student injured in shooting at The Registry

A former Western student was injured in a Sunday afternoon shooting at The Registry Apartments.

Bowling Green police are investigating the incident, which left 21-year-old Tony Trumbo with a foot wound, said Officer Barry Pruitt, public information officer for the Bowling Green Police Department.

Trumbo was treated in the emergency room, but wasn’t admitted, according to officials at The Medical Center.

No suspects have been identified in the case, Pruitt said.

At 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Bowling Green Police responded to a report that there was a shooting at The Registry, he said.

When police arrived at the scene, there were no victims or suspects present, Pruitt said.

Police then received information that there was an ambulance called to McCormack Hall, where Trumbo was picked up and transported to the hospital, he said.

A 17-year-old male from Louisville who was with the victim was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun, Pruitt said. The male isn’t a suspect in the shooting.

Pruitt said he believes the shooting stemmed from an earlier argument.

This is the second shooting at The Registry in the past three months, but the incidents aren’t related, Pruitt said.

Students, property manager, charged with assault on a police officer

Three Western students and a property manager at The Registry apartments who are charged with third-degree assault on a police officer have been released from Warren County Regional Jail but still face an Oct. 9 court date.

Property manager James Maroney, 43, of Louisville Rd., was released on a $5,000 cash bond.

Young Jin Park, 23, of Pearce Ford Tower; Rodrigo Vanhaelst, 23, of Old Morgantown Rd. and Marc Tobias Wagner, 25, of Old Morgantown Rd., were released on $5,000 surety bonds.

Wagner was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct in addition to the assault charge.

The arrests came after Bowling Green police responded at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday to complaints about loud music at The Registry.
They were able to hear loud music from the street before reaching Wagoner’s apartment, Public Information Officer Barry Pruitt said.

When officers reached the apartment, the people inside wouldn’t let them in, according to a police report.

Later, Park stepped outside and then ran back inside the apartment when one of the three policemen on the scene approached him, police reported. An officer attempting to follow Park got his foot slammed in the door.

People inside the apartment kept pushing on the door after police asked them to stop, police reported.

One officer forced the door open while another officer used a Taser on Maroney’s exposed hand as they tried to get inside, police reported. The injured officer was then treated at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.
