Plans begin for food court near PFT

Site preparation began this week for a food court to be built between Pearce-Ford Tower and Keen Hall. "It's the most under-served area on campus," said Gary Meszaros, Director of Auxiliary Services. The project is intended to thin the crowds of Downing University Center and to offer late-night services, Meszaros said.

Judge rules Italian character isn't too similar to Big Red

An Italian judge ruled against Western and in favor of an Italian television company in a $250 million lawsuit for copyright and trademark infringement. Western, Crossland Enterprises Inc. and Adfra sued television company Mediaset in 2002, saying the company copied Big Red to create Gabibbo, the star of a satirical news show the company airs in Italy.

Board of Regents approves buying house to use for visiting scholars

The Board of Regents approved the purchase of 513 Regents Ave. to be used as lodging for visiting scholars after meeting at 8:30 Saturday morning to discuss the purchase. The number of beds for visiting scholars has dropped from 18 to seven because of houses removed during the construction on the College of Education building, President Gary Ransdell said at the meeting.

This time it was 11th-ranked Tennessee who found a way to avoid an upset by beating Western 88-82 in the Sun Belt Classic Saturday night at the Sommet Center in Nashville. No fear against Vols for Tops

The Toppers are not scared. They never have been. Against Tennessee, Western played a competitive game until finally relinquishing to an 88-82 defeat Saturday night in Nashville, and not once did they show an ounce of fear. A.J. Slaughter wasn't scared, constantly slicing through the lane in between the Tennessee towers of Brian Williams and Ryan Childress.

Argabright named all-American again

The "A" in all-American stands for Argabright again in 2007. For the third year in a row, junior Megan Argabright was named an all-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Argabright is the only multi-time all-American in Western volleyball history.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Faulkner to transfer from Western

The Western Kentucky women's basketball program announced early Friday afternoon that sophomore guard Brooke Faulkner will transfer from the Lady Topper program to pursue other opportunities. "We are sad that this situation has come about with Brooke," said Cowles.

Student arrested on charges of identity theft

Campus police execute search warrant

A student in Southwest Hall was arrested Monday on charges of identity theft. Melvin Griggs, 20, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn., was being held at the Warren County Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash bond as of Monday night.
