Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day. It is a day for lovers to exchange tokens of love-candy, flowers, engagement rings and champagne. But its origin dates back to the third century Rome. According to the most popular legend, the day is a tribute to St. Valentine, a Catholic bishop, who was performing marriages for young lovers in secret.

Commitment is a cringe-worthy issue for some young adults. But some people don’t worry about marriage because the person they are to spend a lifetime with will be chosen for them. Graduate student Anil Puvvada, 22, of Andhrapradesh, India, does not stress about who he is going to marry.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and the loved and hated topic of romance lingers in the air. Some people prepare for a passionate gift-filled day with their significant other, while others prepare to be alone. But who says that your special Valentine has to be an intimate partner? There is another way for guys and gals to spend time together without pursuing a romantic relationship.

Feb. 14 is SAD. That’s right everyone, it’s Singles Awareness Day. For those of us who remain wild and free, Valentine’s Day is a time to sit back and realize that our wallets are full as those who are tied down scramble to find the perfect gift for their “perfect” person.
