Western Weezer fans are logging onto Facebook in an attempt to bring the band to the Hill.
Weezer is the face of the new Motorola CLIQ phone from T-Mobile. T-Mobile is hosting a competition between universities called the Motorola CLIQ Challenge, according to its Facebook application.

Float precautions may change after Homecoming fire

Western officials are discussing taking more precautions to ensure Homecoming festivities are safe for students next year.

Howard Bailey, vice president for Student Affairs, said Homecoming parade participants next year may be required to have a fire extinguisher on every float.

That idea follows an incident at last week’s Homecoming parade when a float created by FarmHouse and Sigma Nu fraternities and Alpha Omicron Pi sorority caught fire after an electrical short on the float.

Fraternity returns to Western

Fraternity returns to Western

A fraternity is making its way back to Western after a 34-year absence.

Alpha Tau Omega fraternity will return to campus in fall 2010, said Gary Wiser, coordinator of student activities.

ATO was the first fraternity at Western to lose its national charter in 1976 for lack of organization and membership, according to a November 1976 Herald article.

Deltas, Alphas win Step Show

Delta Sigma Theta sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity won the National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show tonight.

Death penalty opponents visit Western

Death penalty opponents visit Western

An exonerated death-row inmate, a mother of a man on death row and a murder victim’s family member all came to Western to share their stories Thursday night.

They started telling those stories at 6 p.m. in the Mass Media Auditorium as part of Journey of Hope, an organization that conducts public education speaking tours and addresses alternatives to the death penalty, according to the organization’s Web site.

Western was the last stop of the Journey of Hope tour through Kentucky, according to the organization’s Web site.

Fresh food worker dies at 52

Fresh food worker dies at 52

Harold E. Alexander’s coworkers liked having him around.

Alexander, 52, died at 12:03 p.m. on Nov. 2 at The Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 20, 1957 in Simpson County.

Alexander was a cook employed by Aramark at the Fresh Food Company in Downing University Center.

Students rally for gay rights

Upset after Maine didn’t legalize same- sex marriage, Western students decided to start a gay rights rally Wednesday at Centennial Mall.

Bowling Green senior Skylar Baker-Jordan was upset that Maine didn’t vote same-sex marriage into effect, the same decision California citizens made this time last year, he said.

Health Services received 700 more doses of swine flu vaccine Wednesday.

Fending off the flu

Fending off the flu

Some members of the Western community got in line early Monday morning to be among the first people at Health Services to get the swine flu vaccine.

Health Services received 400 doses of the vaccine last week after requesting 2,000 doses earlier this semester and asking for an additional 500 doses last week, said Terri Cunningham, Health Services marketing coordinator.

By 4 p.m. Monday, Health Services was out of the injection form of the vaccine and had 20 doses left of nasal spray form, said Stacie Sutter, Health Services business manager.
