TAMPA, Fla. – Those who follow upsets closely know the 12-5 match-up has produced it’s fair share of upsets in the history of the NCAA Tournament. But coach Darrin Horn said he didn’t come to Tampa to upset anyone. “We’re trying to win,” Horn said. “The seed, and the match-up to us are irrelevant from the standpoint that we want to come out and find a way to win the game.”

TAMPA, Fla.- Throw the seeding outs in Western’s first-round date with Drake, because to use those as a way to pick who wins is to not look deep enough into the game. The 12-seeded Toppers and the 5-seeded Bulldogs will square off in a type of battle that has seen a rise in popularity among the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee this season: a battle of mid-major powerhouses taking each other on in first round, match-ups that one usually wouldn’t see unless the teams made it to the Sweet Sixteen.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Western’s men’s basketball team sat patiently in the locker room Thursday morning waiting for their time to step on to the floor in preparation for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003. The No. 12 seeded Western kept it simple in their 40-minute public shoot-around at the St. Pete Times Forum Thursday afternoon before the match on Friday against fifth-seeded Drake.

International Flavor Tomorrow’s first-round match-up will have a total of seven international student athletes competing. Representing Western will be senior forward Nadege Muna, a student athlete from Cameroon. For the Miners, guard Kasia Krezel, center Izabela Piekarska, and guard Joanna Zalesiak originate from Poland.
