Vigil planned for Sigma Kappa freshman

Florence freshman Laura Chaney is remembered by Charlotte Elder as a “bright spot,” and vivacious woman. Chaney, a member of Sigma Kappa sorority, was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m. today at the Bowling Green Medical Center, said Harold Sanson, Warren County deputy coroner.

Students attend vigil for Sigma Kappa freshman

Visitation for Florence freshman Laura Chaney will take place on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington, Ky., according to a press release from the funeral home.

The Funeral service will take place at on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Burlington, according to the press release.

Regents approve amendment, eliminate proposed fee

The Board of Regents voted Friday to raise tuition. But the board eliminated a proposed extra charge for students taking more than 15 hours. Tuition will increase by 4 percent next semester, taking resident undergraduate tuition from $3,465 to $3,600. Regents voted to eliminate an item in the meeting’s agenda which called for students to pay a $30 fee in addition to tuition for each credit hour they took exceeding 15 hours.

Western, SGA officials plan to amend proposal for new student fee

Student Government Association and university officials agreed today to make an amendment about a proposed fee that Board of Regents members were to vote on at their Friday meeting, said Student Regent Reagan Gilley.

The amendment would eliminate an item in the meeting’s agenda that calls for a $30 fee in addition to tuition for every credit hour students take exceeding 15 hours.

Western drops doubleheader to Florida Atlantic

Western’s softball team gave up both games tonight at the WKU Softball Complex. The Lady Toppers fell to Florida Atlantic 4-2 in game one and 11-5 in game two. In game two, Western was led offensively by senior second baseman Terri Ellingsworth going 2-2 hitting two home runs and batting in four base runners.

Smiley elected SGA president

Danville junior Kevin Smiley was elected president of the Student Government Association with 894 votes. The results were announced at about 12:14 a.m. Thursday. His opponent Kayla Shelton, a junior from Gallatin, Tenn., got 673 votes.

Elizabethtown senior Kendrick Bryan was elected executive vice president with 847 votes.

SGA awards org aid, announces another presidential candidate

The Student Government Association passed three bills tonight and voted down one resolution at a meeting on Tuesday.

Two bills that passed awarded $9,029.04 in organizational aid money to 21 organizations, according to the legislation.

The other approved bill allocated $2,000 to the Office of Diversity Programs for “The Come Up” program.
