UPDATE: Martin arrangements set, driver arraigned

The woman who was driving the truck that fatally injured the chairman of the Board of Regents was arraigned this morning, and herpreliminary trial date was set.

Mickey L. Mosher, 54, of Warsaw, Ind., is being held in the Logan County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond after she was arraigned in Logan County District Court today, Logan County Sheriff Wallace Whittaker said.

J-term more popular than anticipated

Western’s first winter term hasn’t started yet, and it’s already more popular with students than the May term. There are 1,935 students registered for 172 winter term classes taking place from Jan. 2-20. The participation from students and faculty was higher than expected, said Beth Laves, assistant to the dean of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach.

IN MEMORY: Rich ‘always brightened the mood’

Jamie Rich’s friends remember her as a thoughtful person who loved to laugh. It’s what her friend, Louisville sophomore Lacey Holman, said she would miss most about her. “You couldn’t not laugh when you heard her laughing,” Holman said in an e-mail. Rich, a former Western student from Scottsville, died on Tuesday from injuries resulting from a car accident, Allen County Coroner Mike Wimpee said.

IN MEMORY: Student dies in car surfing accident

If James Watson had to use one word to describe his younger brother, Benjamin Watson, it would be smart.

“I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, but he’s by far the smartest person I’ve known,” James Watson said.

Benjamin Watson, a Western student from Louisville, died on July 10 from injuries he suffered the previous night when he fell from a moving car while “car surfing” on a neighborhood street in Louisville.
