A Thousand Words Beyond the Hill

When you drive down the street in Somerset, one house sticks out more than any other. It’s unlike the other houses with gardens and trimmed grass. This house’s paint is old, the yard is in disrepair and there are two La-Z-Boy chairs resting on the porch. After Michael Boyton, 6, threw his small black and white dog into a muddy pool of water, his twin sister Mekala arrived with a blanket to cover the puppy.

A Thousand Words Beyond the Hill

A few hours after an F2 tornado ripped through Greg Denham’s small farm on Friday, the site is one of devastation; broken glass lies everywhere and lost cows wandered by as a group of volunteers began the clean-up process. The tornado came from the same band of storms that tore though northern Tennessee and killed 12 people.

Jim Bilyeu, 64, of Phoenix, Ariz., holds the ladder for Southern Log Home Care owner Guntars Rizijs, 29, of Sweetwater, Tenn., after he was finished spraying the building with a form of acid to make sure the wood doesn’t break down to the elements. The company was employed by Western to replace the old wood, take off old finish and add new finish on the eighty-five-year-old Cedar House located between Garrett Center and Cherry Hall.
