COMMENTARY: The SGA needs to display championship effort

Today and tomorrow, all Western students will be able to vote on TopNet for a needed change in the direction of the Student Government Association. As history shows, a new era will happen only if a shakeup occurs. I am running for the office of Executive Vice President because it is time every concern is discussed and followed up by SGA members as well as University officials.

COMMENTARY: Newly introduced transcript is beneficial

In October, academic officials introduced the Student Engagement Activities Transcript (SEAT) to Resident Assistants and other housing employees. Western does not guarantee the accuracy of the information in the student-reported transcript, but it does allow students to be actively engaged in recording learning activities in which they participated inside and outside of the classroom.

COMMENTARY: Unite and vote for a better tomorrow

As I sit in my hotel room in Colorado, Matchbox 20’s song “How Far We’ve Come” is stuck in my head as I watch the Democratic National Convention. I do not feel the world is burning to the ground, but I do believe that we have someone to run to this election season.

COMMENTARY: What I learned while others walked out of class last week

While a number of my peers walked out of their classes and participated in the Walk Out Western event endorsed by the Student Government Association, I decided to stay in my class and learn. After my class was dismissed, I ventured to the Colonnade to attend the rally, where I signed a banner and listened to speakers such as executive vice president Johnathon Boles, President Jeanne Johnson and Senator Kevin Smiley.

COMMENTARY: ‘Friday Night Lights’ show lives up to the hype

With ABC Family’s GREEK and HBO’s Entourage off the air for a number of months, I’ve turned my attention to a different television series. This one involves the sport of American football. While the Hilltoppers don’t play a home game until the end of October, this member of Elson’s Entourage can support another team from the living room.

SGA ends year on high note

Much like Michelin, the Student Government Association is trying to find “a better way forward.”
Under the guidance of the executive council, the SGA took great strides this year. Each student senate committee attempted to help the students, and all of the committees made notable steps forward.
