Sometimes it takes an accident to learn a lesson

Three weeks ago, I was tired. I’d hit the post-fall-break, class-overload, too-much-going-on part of the semester. And that’s not counting working three jobs and being in a sorority. I was really tired. And for the first time in my life, I was homesick. I wanted to go where the food was free and not so fast, where I could take a bath, where I could just sit for a night and sleep in my own bed before running back the next morning to the pressures of school.

Sprinklers may have contained, put out fire

A sprinkler system may have contained and extinguished a fire in Poland Hall early Sunday morning that injured a freshman resident.

When the fire started, the sprinkler system activated because of heat in the room, said Brian Kuster, director of Housing and Residence Life.

Science building to open in 2004

A new body is being raised from the ground on Western’s campus. The skeleton is already there.

The body is taking the form of a new $20 million science building, scheduled to open in fall 2004.

Construction on the science building is going well and is on schedule, Construction Manager Ed West said.

Safety escort service revived

Walking back to the dorm alone at 2 a.m. may be less dangerous with the implement of the police escort service.

On Sept. 19, 2002, Western’s police proposed starting a student escort service with a $2,500 grant given by the Parents Advisory Council.
The proposal was approved in spring 2003 and will be effective on campus in fall 2003.
