Some Western students encouraged the Bowling Green City Commission Tuesday to spend stimulus money on weatherizing homes.
Lexington junior Greg Capillo spoke to Mayor Elaine Walker and commissioners at a work session on Tuesday afternoon.
A couple of other Western students also attended.

When Matt Vaughan, a sophomore from Mexico, Mo., came to Western fall 2007, he was a little nervous about coming to a school where he knew no one.
But when Vaughan started talking with his fellow residents in Minton Hall, he found they had a lot in common, including a desire to change the world.

Visitation for Florence freshman Laura Chaney will take place on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington, Ky., according to a press release from the funeral home.
The Funeral service will take place at on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Burlington, according to the press release.

Two Western students were indicted last week by a Warren County grand jury.
Marion sophomore Adam Attia and Charles Groves, a freshman from Hartsville, Tenn., were indicted Wednesday, April 29.
Attia’s court date has been set for May 22, according to the county clerk’s office.

Sustainability Coordinator Christian Ryan-Downing had a surprise in her inbox on Earth Day. It was an e-mail from Brian Kuster, director of Housing and Residence Life, saying Western had signed a contract with Lucid Design Group for software to monitor energy use in dorms.

Students who want to talk sustainability now have a new outlet.
The “Lunch and Learn” discussion series with Sustainability Coordinator Christian Ryan-Downing begins at noon today on the Downing University Center porch.
The lunches, which last an hour, will be every Thursday from now through the summer, Ryan-Downing said.

Western may be ahead of the game in emergency management at Kentucky universities.
Western’s department of environment, health and safety hosted the first statewide Emergency Management Leadership Summit last week.
The summit, which took place at the Center for Research and Development, was a way for Kentucky colleges to compare emergency management tactics, said Mark Pendley, director of environment, health and safety.

Louisville senior Emily Brewster had the option to move off campus a couple of years ago.
But Brewster, who is a Spirit Master and is involved with the Baptist Campus Ministry, chose to stay on campus.
“It’s so much easier to stay here,” she said.
Money was also a deciding factor, Brewster said.

One member of the Student Government Association Executive Cabinet hasn’t been on schedule with all of his office hours this semester.
Reagan Gilley, student regent and administrative vice president, has come up short of his 10 required weekly hours five times the semester, according to SGA office hour logs.
