Normally, size-15 sneakers are reserved for the hardwood of a basketball court.

Jeremy Evans, a 6-foot-9-inch freshman with an 86-inch wing span, is trading his high-tops in for a pair of track spikes.

Many might know Evans as the slender, up-and-coming defender of the post in Diddle Arena for Western’s men’s basketball team.

For the benefit of the university, President Gary Ransdell and football coach David Elson threw themselves out of a plane Tuesday. They weren’t the only ones jumping that day over Fort Knox. At 5:30 in the morning, Ransdell, Elson, Director of Development Amanda Lich and three representatives of Western’s ROTC program departed from Diddle Arena and headed to Godman Airfield in Fort Knox.

GOLF: Western looks ahead on sour note

The last tournament of the year brought about mixed emotions from Western’s men’s golf team.

The Toppers finished tied for ninth place overall in the 17-team field at the First Energy Intercollegiate tournament held in Akron, Ohio.

Play from some of the underclassmen has both coach Brian Tirpak and the rest of the team optimistic about the future of the program.

FOOTBALL: Top opponents await Western in future seasons

The Toppers have taken another step in their transition to Division I-A football. On Friday, Western announced numerous future opponents, including home-and-home deals with two programs from Bowl Championship Series conferences. The Toppers will play host to Indiana in September 2010, while Iowa State is slated to visit in September 2015.
