“The shot” hit by Ty Rogers in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament might have headlined Western’s 2007-2008 athletic year, but it’s only a glimpse of the success of the entire Topper’s athletic program. In the 2007-2008 seasons, Western claimed 10 of its possible 18 Sun Belt Conference titles, more than any other Division I university in the country.

NASHVILLE – This season’s Home Run Derby isn’t until the middle of July in New York City, but last night, the Lady Toppers put on a homer show of their own. In Western’s doubleheader against Lipscomb, the Lady Toppers (25-26, 7-13 Sun Belt Conference) lit up the scoreboard with six home runs, winning the first game 6-3 and the second 5-2.

The Lady Toppers provided tunes in Music City on Wednesday afternoon. Except instead of steel guitars, the sound came courtesy of softballs hitting aluminum bats. In their doubleheader wins against Belmont, the Lady Toppers (20-26, 4-13 Sun Belt Conference) won 12-2 in the first game and 10-3 in the second contest.

This current scenario couldn’t have happened at a better time for the Lady Toppers. Following a 10-game losing streak, Western has won four out of its last five games with three weeks left before the Sun Belt Conference tournament. Western (18-26, 4-13 Sun Belt Conference) followed its sweep of Tennessee Tech with another conference series victory over North Texas.
