Forum tonight on death penalty

Western students will get to debate the death penalty at a forum Tuesday.

The forum will take place at 6 p.m. in Cherry Hall Auditorium.

Kate Miller, program associate for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, said more than 130 people have been found innocent after being on death row in the last 30 years.

Jamaica trip provides chance to learn

Western may be creating a long-term relationship with Jamaica.

Last weekend, Western faculty and students traveled there to help the country learn how to protect its water resources, and are planning to go back.

Faculty and students from Western’s department of geography and geology, the School of Journalism and Broadcasting, and the Hoffman Environmental Research Institute went on the trip, according to a Western press release.

Rotaract club to send shoes overseas

One of Western’s newest clubs is collecting shoes to send to children overseas.

The Rotaract Club partnered up with the Greek community and athletics committee for its first project. Members will be collecting shoes that will be sent to Africa, according to a Western press release.

Students participate in Greek Week blood drive

For many blood donors this week, a fear of needles took a back seat to a bigger cause.

The annual Greek Week Blood Drive began Monday and lasted until Wednesday at the Preston Center.

The event was a competition during Western’s Greek Week.

A flat-screen TV will be given to the fraternity and sorority that donated the most blood.
