Elizabethtown junior Travis Beeler bought an Amazon Kindle this semester so he wouldn’t have to carry around as many books.
Kindles are digital book readers available exclusively through Amazon, according to Amazon.com.
Amazon announced the Kindle DX yesterday, according to an Amazon press release.

Registrar Freida Eggleton answered some frequently asked questions for graduating seniors. Q: Do students need tickets for their guests at graduation? She said that’s probably the most frequently asked question she gets. The ceremonies are open to the public and there isn’t a restriction on the number of guests who can attend, Eggleton said.

Columbia freshman Josh Ford was on his way to the Tower Food Court yesterday afternoon to treat himself to Edy’s Ice Cream.
He said he usually eats at Zoca’s, which serves Mexican food, when he goes to the food court near Pearce-Ford Tower.
Ford, who lives in Barnes-Campbell Hall, said he eats Zoca’s so often that some staff members know his order.

Kaylee Egerer, a freshman from Rochester, Mich., understands how injuries affect student athletes because she hurt her back, which kept her from continuing to cheerlead in high school.
So, when Western athletics department officials asked her how they should use the $10,000 her uncle donated to athletics, she said she wanted to help injured athletes.

The impact of failing national banks is trickling down to college students.
Higher education funding has taken a hit that started with banks lending too much money, Economics Department Chair William Davis said.
Some banks failed because they gave too many mortgage loans that borrowers couldn’t pay back.

Western students might have to meet higher standards soon.
The President’s Task Force on Quality and Access released recommendations to tighten admissions and create more college readiness programs to the president on Tuesday.
The task force’s goal is to get more students to stay in school and graduate, said Chair David Lee, dean of Potter College of Arts and Letters.

Western officials want to charge students for extra credit hours. But the Student Government Association plans to protest. The Board of Regents will vote on a $30 charge for each credit hour exceeding 15 hours at its meeting on April 24, President Gary Ransdell said.
