Officials still investigating cause of visitor’s death

The cause of death remains undetermined for a man who was found dead in Barnes-Campbell Hall Sunday. The body of Lank Graves, 20, of Glasgow was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Louisville, where an autopsy was performed Monday morning, according to the State Medical Examiner office.

Parking enforcement aims to decrease tickets, increase available spaces

Students who disobey the parking rules may get the boot. The boot, in this instance, is a wheel clamp, which is part of the Department of Parking and Transportation’s crack down on parking violators. Increased enforcement is causing more people to buy permits, so Western is giving out fewer tickets, said Gene Tice, vice president of student affairs and campus services.

Assault leads to car theft

A Western student reported his car stolen after an assault to campus police Friday. Louisville senior Michael Ferguson said he was giving two former high school classmates a ride home to Louisville Friday at 3 p.m. when a dispute occurred over the price for the ride.

Ready, set, robot: Kids compete at Western

It was a day on which Western engineering students were judges. High schoolers who stood on tip-toes were serious competitors. And 20-pound-baseball-lifting robots – well, they were still 20-pound-baseball-lifting robots. Western’s engineering department hosted the eighth annual Kentucky Bluegrass Robotics Competition Saturday.

Sophomore injured by gunshot

As of Monday afternoon, police were still looking for a male who allegedly attempted to murder a Western student Sunday outside of College Suites apartments.
Louisville sophomore David D. Robinson was struck in the head several times with a pistol and shot in the back of the leg by an unknown assailant when he tried to escape, according to a police report.

Campus thefts on upswing in October

Campus police have reported an upswing of thefts from vehicles this month. There have also been large amounts of graffiti appearing in campus parking lots, but campus police say there’s no reason to believe the two are connected. There were 15 reported thefts from vehicles in October.

Eighteen teams take on the Two Day Film Challenge

Eighteen teams spent Friday night talking about ways to kill Jose de Lugo. Jose wasn’t in any real trouble. He was a made-up character who was part of the Two Day Film Challenge this weekend. Teams competed for a $1,000 top prize and various lesser prizes.

Explorer program offers students a look at law enforcement

Just a year after she graduated, Hannah Haeberlin is back at Western. Haeberlin was a campus police Explorer captain with campus police during fall 2006. She started this fall at Western as a telecommunications officer after attending a five-week academy at Eastern Kentucky University called The Department of Criminal Justice Training.

Sorority to be recolonized

The Theta Iota chapter of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority will be dissolved at the end of the fall 2007 term. It will form again during the fall 2008 semester. Alpha Gamma Delta International made the decision to re-form Western’s chapter because of low membership, said Kathy Kish, executive director of AGD International.
