Western immune from wrongful death lawsuit

The Kentucky Supreme Court decided yesterday that Western and the Student Life Foundation are immune from a wrongful death lawsuit involving a freshman killed on campus in 2003. The court voted 6-0 to uphold a previous decision that Western was immune and reversed a Court of Appeals’ decision that Western’s Student Life Foundation was not immune.

No one ever yells “Stop the presses!” Editors don’t chain-smoke in the office. And on most days, it’s fairly quiet in the newsroom.

address.

The Board of Regents approved renaming portions of Big Red Way to
College Heights Boulevard and the Avenue of Champions at their meeting Friday.

The university’s new address, which will be 1906 College Heights
Blvd.

Suit against Gabibbo may be decided next year

A tuxedo-clad, big, red blob named Gabibbo entertains fans across Italy five days a week on a satirical television show. But behind the cameras, the Italian character is in the midst of a lawsuit for allegedly bearing a striking resemblance to Big Red, Western’s mascot.

Top dollars spent for lobbying

Sometimes you have to give in order to get something back. At least that’s the philosophy Western has been practicing. Western has spent $840,000 on lobbying for federal appropriations in Washington, D.C. since 1998, the most for any Kentucky university, according to the Center for Public Integrity, a non-profit organization that does investigative research on public policy issues.
