COMMENTARY: Western needs to join drinking debate

I was spending Monday night the way I spend most Monday nights – checking the next day’s Herald for misspellings and comma splices. So, I was singing a Say Anything song out loud across from probably my only coworker who would tolerate such things and reading about a national debate about lowering the drinking age to 18 when I came across a disturbing quote.

Trivia gives professors relaxation, competition

A college-town crowd and a smattering of Bowling Green locals crowded into Buffalo Wild Wings on Scottsville Road for an evening of wings, drinks and football watching with the volume set low on wide-screen TVs that hung on the walls. Some patrons occasionally glanced at smaller monitors tucked into corners throughout the restaurant.

While Jenks Britt worked on the house that he and his fiancé would soon move into, his mother arrived with a letter to him from Auburn University. A nerve-racking three-month wait to hear from the school preceded her arrival. “My mother brought me the mail,” he said.

Student arrested on charges of identity theft

A student in Southwest Hall was arrested Monday on charges of identity theft.
Melvin Griggs, 20, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn., was being held at the Warren County Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash bond as of Monday night.

COMMENTARY: Underwear: What you say about yourself, underneath it all

I’m not a very good dresser. I can often be found in line at Java City wearing some tattered jeans and my ex-boyfriend’s Spawn T-shirt. My wardrobe only expands on Christmas and birthdays–unless we’re talking about my underwear stash. I scored a handful of dainty drawers at the mall last weekend, and I have since been expressing myself at the sub-trouser level.

SGA to discuss dining options

The Student Government Association plans to meet with ARAMARK to discuss issues regarding food services on campus, including the possibility of extended Garrett Conference Center food court hours and introducing healthy drink options. Reagan Gilley, director of Academic and Student Affairs and Kevin Smiley, student affairs committee chairman, are setting setting up a meeting with ARAMARK.

E. coli outbreak could be linked to frozen pizzas

General Mills announced Friday a voluntary recall of Totino’s and Jeno’s frozen pizzas because of possible E. coli contamination of the pepperoni topping. Three reported E. coli cases were in Kentucky, and the investigation is ongoing. The recall hasn’t affected Western’s food services department.
