A Thousand Words

Bill “Bogey” Baldwin helps show 5-year-old Maddy Bratcher how to hold a chain saw. Several of the neighborhood kids wanted a shot at it.

“I want to hold it. I want to hold it,” rang the chorus of chants.

Baldwin, bearded and jolly, went to his house for a guard he puts over the chain so kids won’t get hurt.

Quinton Whcyes, better known as “Nubs,” might be one of Bowling Green’s most recognizable inhabitants. At 8 months old, he was badly burned by hot water and lost his legs below his knees.

Subsequently, Whcyes has been wheelchair-bound for most of his life.
