Bowling Green hot spot Bread & Bagel is changing owners and names.
But the new owners say the culture and traditions that made the coffee shop unique aren’t being remodeled.
The coffee shop and local music venue is being bought by Molly Kerby and Benita Bartley, owners of Greener Groundz coffee.

A new financial plan from the Downtown Redevelopment Authority could change the look of new Western parking, but not the substance. The downtown parking structure that Western is planning to lease after its completion will have fewer floors than originally planned and nearly 300 fewer parking spaces, Mayor Elaine Walker said.

For the third time in as many months, Western students have created a play that can be appreciated by people of all ages. Throughout the 2008 fall semester, Western’s Children’s Theatre is debuting a new play every month. Written by Lowell Swortzel and directed by Franklin, Tenn.

There’s a smell of new paint that hangs in the air. Construction paper and cables line the floors of the Russell Miller Theatre in the fine arts center. People with headsets and costumes rush on and offstage while actors mouth lines to themselves. By tonight, the words won’t be pained over.

As people squeezed onto two sets of metal bleachers in the Preston Center to watch eight men in strange wheelchairs slam into each other at full force, it was apparent that no one in the crowd knew anything about murderball. “I thought they’d all be bigger and stronger,” said a student in the crowd.

He wasn’t one of those kids who played a sport as far back as they could remember. In fact, his middle school gym teacher had to ask him repeatedly to give basketball a chance. Yet senior point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez is prepared to take Western’s basketball team to the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row.

“Welcome to the first annual, and I’d like to stress annual, Starry Night Music Festival!” Bryan Grace, creator and organizer of Starry Night, has been a busy man for the last few months. In June, he realized that residents in Bowling Green were looking for a new musical outlet.

Students will be able to cash in on stock market success for the next six weeks. The fifth annual online WKU Investment Challenge allows any member of the student body, faculty or staff on campus to take $25,000 worth of computerized money and invest it in stocks of their choosing.

In past years I haven’t taken an interest in politics. A bunch of old rich guys that never really seemed to get anything done didn’t really interest me. So imagine my surprise when I stopped tuning out political talk and started listening to the day-to-day occurrences in Washington and around the nation.
