Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky raised nearly $8,200 at Tuesday night’s Bowl for Kid’s Sake College Bowl in Downing University Center, Special Events Coordinator Robin Pemberton said.
She said the turnout was good, but they were hoping to raise a little more money.
The money go to funding the mentoring program throughout the year in Allen, Barren and Warren counties, Pemberton said. The money may be used for things such as printing brochures or a new billboard campaign.
“Since we are a non-profit organization, our two big annual fundraisers are very important to us,” Pemberton said. “It allows us to keep our doors open and the lights on.”
She said fundraising has been tough in the past two years because of businesses closing and people being more frugal with their money.
Last year, their goal was to raise $175,000, and they raised about $145,000, Pemberton said. This year, their goal from all of the bowls is to raise $160,000.
The community bowl will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Southern Lanes, 2710 Scottsville Road. The Glasgow bowl will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 13 at Highlander Bowl, located at 110 Park Ave.
