I’m writing to address my concern over the lack of interest pertaining to the shootings and home break-ins at The Registry apartment complex. The most recent shooting happened in broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon.
The Registry is only a stone’s throw away from several residence halls. Violence that materializes at The Registry could easily spill over onto campus. In my mind, this makes The Registry’s security issue a Western security issue.
My apologies to the management, but the rubenesque security guard that they have recently hired is ineffectual. The Registry is in need of competent office staff, more cameras, security gates that function and proper tenant screenings as well as evictions for drug-related or violent offenses. These things could make The Registry a great place to live again rather than a crime-ridden slum.
I would like to see Western take a serious interest in The Registry. Students’ lives are at risk, and I would like to see some real action taken.
