Bowling Green senior Mark Irons played guitar for years before he decided to start writing his own pieces. Of all his compositions, “Saving August” is one of his favorites with soft guitar strums, soft vocals and thoughtful lyrics.
“It’s a hopeful kind of song about the summer, trying to recapture the magic of summer,” Irons said.
After composing several songs, Irons wanted to take them to the stage. After buying a new public address system, Irons said he was ready to perform.
“I really want to play out and about,” he said. “I want to find out what I can do with my music. Where would it take me?”
His self-titled demo is all acoustic with layered guitar and some keyboarding that he learned as a sophomore at Berea College before transferring to Western.
Irons will be playing at Greener Groundz Coffee and Café tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The show is free, as are the CDs.
“If nothing else, it’s free,” Irons said.
Cash Wilson, who attended Bowling Green High School, will open for Irons. He said he’s excited to return home.
“I get to say ‘hi’ to everybody and whatnot,” Wilson said.
Along with Iron and Wilson’s free music, specials on pizza and beer will be offered, said Greener Groundz employee Amanda Tinch.
Acoustic shows are hosted every Friday and Saturday night. Sign-up lists are on myspace.com/greenergroundz, Tinch said.
