Cross country teams compete at NCAA regionals

The men and women’s teams competed in the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Louisville on Saturday.

For the women, Janet Jesang finished second out of 237 runners in the 6,000-meter race, qualifying her to compete in the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 23. Junior Catherine White of Virginia won the race in 20 minutes, 3 seconds, nine seconds faster than Jesang. Western, who was seeded seventh going into the race, sought their first top-10 team finish ever but ended up 11th overall with 335 points. Duke finished first overall out of 35 teams with 69 points.

In the men’s race, senior Patrick Cheptoek finished 12th for Western in a time of 30:29 in the 10,000-meter race. The men’s team finished 22nd out of 37 teams with 570 points. William & Mary took the men’s title with only 49 points.
