Lady Toppers announce four signees

Lady Toppers Head Coach Travis Hudson announced four signees for the 2010 squad on Wednesday.

Janee Diggins (Indianapolis, Ind.), Ashley Potts (Louisville, Ky.), Lindsey Spears (Indianapolis, Ind.), and Melanie Stutsman (Floyds Knob, Ind.) will all join the Lady Toppers as freshmen next season.

Diggins is a two-time All-County selection who holds school records for kills and solo blocks in a season. Hudson said in a press release from Western that he believes Diggins will “develop into a dominant offensive player.”

Potts, the younger sister of current Lady Topper Kelly Potts, is a two-time All-Region Tournament team selection from Assumption High School who helped her club team to the 2009 JVDA National Championship. Hudson stated that Potts is “one of the premier defensive players in the country.”

Spears excelled in three sports in high school but is shifting her focus to volleyball. She was named to the Indiana All-Conference Team in 2008. Hudson said in the press release that Spears is a “very versatile athlete with a huge upside as a volleyball player.”

Stutsman has accumulated over 900 assists this season while also leading her team in kill percentage and aces. Hudson stated that Stutsman is “one of the most gifted setters in the class of 2010.”
