Six Lady Toppers were named to the all-Sun Belt Conference team, and senior midfielder Kellie Walker was honored as the conference Player of the Year at an awards banquet before the start of the conference tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. tonight.
Walker, senior defender Rachel Friedman, sophomore forward Mallory Outerbridge and sophomore goalie Libby Stout were voted to the first team by the league’s 12 coaches, while sophomore forward Kaylyn Pratt and senior defender Morgan Thomas were voted to the second team.
Friedman and Thomas are the first Lady Toppers to be named to all-conference three times, and Outerbridge, Stout and Walker were named to the all-conference team for the second straight season.
Walker is Western’s single-season and career assists leader and is four points away from being the program’s career points leader. She leads the league with 12 assists and ranks sixth nationally with 0.63 assists per match.
The No. 3-seeded Lady Toppers will face No. 6 Arkansas State in the first round of the conference tournament at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
