Adviser thanks participants, clarifies article on Majors and Minors Fair

I’m writing in response to the article, “Fair helps with major decisions.” I want to thank Colleen Stewart for her coverage of the 2009 Majors and Minors Fair sponsored by the Academic Advising and Retention Center. I was pleased to read her information about “exploratory” being the correct title for undeclared students. It is true that students are no longer considered undeclared or undecided. They are in fact exploratory; they are exploring their options.

Allow me to correct a few comments from the article. The DISCOVER and FOCUS programs (offered through Career Services Center) are great programs to assist students in the exploratory process and these programs can be found through links on the AARC Web site. CSC also offers job fairs unrelated to the AARC Majors and Minors Fair which focuses on assisting students in exploring their options for selecting a major and/or minor. I want to thank the many people that helped us attract 767 students to this year’s event.
