SGA promotes election, safety walk at meeting

At tonight’s Student Government Association meeting:

  • SGA gave $2,000 from its budget to the Residence Hall Association, Administrative Vice President Justin Thurman said.
  • President Kevin Smiley announced that the voting for the SGA election has started and encouraged senators to promote the election. Students can vote for candidates on TopNet until Wednesday night. The results will be announced at about midnight, soon after the polls close, he said.
  • Smiley encouraged senators to participate in the Campus Safety Walk. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, he said. Participants will walk around campus in search of areas that could be unsafe, such as dimly-lit areas or areas with dense shrubbery.
  • Executive Vice President Kendrick Bryan said he’s looking into making direct deposit available to all student workers, not just the dining workers.
  • Chief of Staff Eric Smiley said he wants to form a food and dining services committee to solve problems with meal plans and other services.
The committee would consist of a few students, a faculty member and a Dining Services employee, he said.
