Tennessee among four teams playing in Bowling Green

The pairings for the NCAA Tournament were announced today a little after 6:30 p.m. by the NCAA Women’s basketball tournament selection committee.

Iowa State (24-8), Tennessee (22-10), Ball State (25-8) and East Tennessee State (20-10) will be playing their first and second round games starting Sunday at Diddle Arena as part of the Berkeley Region of the NCAA Tournament.

Western Athletics Director Dr. Wood Selig, a member of the selection committee, said, it wasn’t an overly complicated procedure when determining which teams would play in Bowling Green.

He said Tennessee, the fifth seed in the Berkeley Region, ended up being matched up and seeded as an unassigned team that could play in Bowling Green.

Iowa State, the fourth seed, earned the Big 12 conference at-large bid to the tournament while Ball State, 12th seed, and ETSU, 13th seed, both earned automatic bids to the tournament after winning each of the respective conference championships.

Both Ball State and ETSU will benefit from the NCAA adding sites so that teams will be geographically closer to their own fans, Selig said.

Iowa State and ETSU will tip-off at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Tennessee and Ball State will tip at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
