SGA resolution prompts changes in print quota proposal

Officials in the academic technology department have revised their print quota proposal after the Student Government Association passed a resolution opposing the quota on Nov. 11.

SGA President Johnathon Boles said the new proposal addresses SGA’s concerns.

The new proposal is more fair for students than the original proposal, Boles said.

One of SGA’s concerns about the original proposal was that a 500-page limit would be unfair for students with majors that require a lot of writing, according to the resolution.

Another concern was that Big Red Dollars are not feasible for all students as the means to pay for additional printing, according to the resolution.

Academic technology’s revised proposal changes the print limit to 1,500 pages for full-time undergraduates, according to an e-mail sent by John Bowers, the director of academic technology. It would also look into expanding the payment methods of additional printing to include Big Red Dollars, coins or print cards which may be purchased in the bookstore or in vending machines.

The newly revised proposal has already been reviewed and received favorably by the Administrative Council and the Council of Academic Deans, Bowers said in the e-mail.

Boles said he expects that the SGA academic affairs committee will discuss the new proposal next semester and come up with a resolution, he said.

He doesn’t want to speak for the senate as to what any new legislation might include, Boles said.
