The University Senate will meet today and is expected to discuss several new pieces of business.
One is a revision to the senate charter, said Denise Gravitt, vice chair of the senate.
The proposed changes would incorporate a representative from the University College and each Community College division, Gravitt said.
The revision would also give more details about and clarify the formation of committees, she said.
The way senate representatives are elected would also change with the revisions, Gravitt said.
Voting would take place via an online ballot if the revisions were approved, rather than the current system of a paper ballot, she said.
Setting up a test for the online voting process will be discussed at the meeting, Gravitt said.
Also on the agenda is a resolution about campus safety that was written as a result of the incident that occurred Oct. 22, according to the senate agenda.
That day, a fight broke out on South Campus and moved to the south end of main campus.
The resolution states that those events show Western isn’t prepared to address violence on campus, and resolves that the faculty should receive training for emergency procedures.
It also resolves that the faculty should receive any information regarding the investigation of the Oct. 22 events and that faculty should be represented on any committee or task force relating to campus safety, according to the resolution.
Both the senate charter revisions and campus safety resolution will be presented for first reading at today’s meeting.
