On Funding Higher Education

Bruce Lunsford

He thinks it’s important to provide education to everyone who wants it, according to an e-mail from Cary Stemle, spokesperson for Bruce Lunsford’s campaign. He believes education has everything to do with Kentucky’s economic and social well-being.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

He has worked to secure about $60 million for Western for things such as purchasing and operating a mobile health unit, giving students hands-on training and funding for Western’s faculty and students to protect the environment in small communities through Western Kentucky, according to an e-mail from Scott Jennings, spokesperson for Mitch McConnell’s campaign.

On Alternative Energy

Lunsford

He wants to increase investments in alternative fuels like Kentucky coal, according to the e-mail. He also encourages conservation.

McConnell

Part of his “Gas Price Reduction Act” calls for investment in a range of new energy technology, according to the e-mail. He believes investment in alternative energy sources should be part of a comprehensive plan to help reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil and lower gas prices.

On Troops in Iraq

Lunsford

He advocates putting pressure on the Iraqis to police themselves, according to the e-mail. He also advocates redeploying U.S. combat troops in Iraq as soon as it can be done adequately and safely.

McConnell

He has voted to fully fund the troops in the field, according to the e-mail. He believes strategic military decisions are best made by military commanders in the field, not by “arm-chair generals” in Washington, D.C.

On Gas prices

Lunsford

He advocates drilling for more domestic oil, according to the e-mail. He would support expanding domestic exploration and increasing offshore drilling.

McConnell

He supports increased American oil drilling, investment in new energy technologies and increase conservation measures, according to the e-mail.
