Western faces Murray State at 6 p.m. on Saturday in its first home game of the season.

Racer coach suspended

Murray State coach Matt Griffin was suspended for one game by the Ohio Valley Conference on Sept. 16. His suspension was the result of comments made about the officiating after the Murray State-llinois State game last weekend. He will serve this suspension at the Western game.

Captains named

Four seniors will make up the team captains for the game Saturday. Those seniors are defensive lineman Dan Cline, defensive back Chris Franklin, offensive lineman Greg Ryan and defensive back Travis Watters.

New home opener

Saturday’s game will be the first in the newly renovated Smith Stadium. The stadium features new team facilites as well as club seats and luxury boxes.

White out

The athletics department has designated this game as a “White Out,” and is encouraging all fans to wear white. Shirts will be distributed as several points before and during the game.

Players and coaches will distribute T-shirts in the “Topper Walk” before the game, and the first 1,000 fans into the stadium will get a free shirt. Shirts will also be thrown into the stands following each Western touchdown.
