A thousand words

This semester Herald photojournalists find interesting stories on the edges of campus.

With her yard packed full of clothes, antiques and other knick-knacks, 45-year-old Susan Bryan had time to reflect on family.

The yard sale was mostly comprised of items that belonged to family members she no longer lives with, such as her father and older brother. In that sense, the items are symbols of the past.

“I had to clear this place out,” she said. “It was getting a little crowded.”

But saying goodbye to the stuff brings a newfound hope for Bryan, especially as her grandchildren, Richard, 3, and Keely, 2, climb among the items for sale.

“I like having these kids around,” she said. “Sort of keeps me goin’.”

She also likes the fact that her son, Kevin, just moved back to Bowling Green from Louisville.

It’s a move that has brought a part of her family closer together.
