Q1. Which X-Men character would you be?
A: I believe his name is Doctor um … the balding, he’s not really an X-men is he? He like runs the X-men. Dr. Xavier.
Herald: Why do you think that?
A: I have a tendency of keeping things together and, you know, being president, or just being Johnathon Boles. My talents are keeping things together and working with people, managing people, so I don’t necessarily have all the cool super powers anymore, but I’m able to work with the super people. … I can read people too, I think. (No superpowers anymore? The Herald wonders what he could do before.)
Q2. How old were you when you got your first kiss?
A: Well, … I was probably a fifth grader. It wasn’t anything too important. It was at this Beta Club convention.
Herald: Scandal! (and laughter)
A: (laughing) So yeah, fifth grade, junior Beta. (Never tell the girl you kissed that it wasn’t too important.)
Q3. What was the last book you read for fun?
A: The last book I read for fun was a book by Martha Beck called “Leaving the Saints,” and it’s about how she left the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, like the Mormons, just her story on why she did that.
Herald: Did you like it?
A: It was pretty good. I got the big font so I could read it a little better. But now I’ve moved on to a book about the Kennedy assassination. I try to read if there’s time, believe it or not, I try to read.
Q4. What was the last movie you saw in theaters?
A: Really?
Herald: Really.
A: The last movie I saw in theaters, I don’t remember which came out first, probably The Simpsons Movie, either that or Aqua Teen Hunger Force, one of the two. That’s pretty bad, but I have not been to see any movies, I have not had time.
Herald: You didn’t make time to go see Batman?
A: I worked all summer long, I will probably buy Batman when it comes out, or watch it or rent it. It’s probably something I want to do, but it’s hasn’t been on the radar. I worked all summer, all day long.
Q5. What is the greatest invention since the wheel?
A: Oh gosh … I’m gonna get in trouble. Probably like a Fry Daddy, so you can fry french fries at home. That’s probably … nah … yeah, that’d probably be it. Man can fry on his own. … State fairs everywhere rejoiced.
Q6. What’s your favorite rap song?
A: “Swing” by Savage.
Herald: Can you sing me a little bit of that?
A: Well, there are several interesting phrases in that song. I’ll probably not. It discusses how a gentleman has asked a lady to dance for him. You should just Youtube it. I don’t think I can sing … I don’t think that’s appropriate for the College Heights Herald. (Any song that requests for a woman to “drop it looooow and let me see your hips SWING” isn’t about a gentleman.)
Q7. What did you want to be when you grew up, when you were a kid?
A: It depends on when I was alive. When I was in elementary school I wanted to be an elementary school teacher, when I was in middle school I wanted to be a middle school teacher, when I was in high school I wanted to be a high school teacher. I also used to want to be a principal of a school or a vice principal, so it’s always been in education somewhere. But when I was very little, apparently, I wanted to be a bat.
Herald: A bat? (mimic flying)
A: So I grew out of that.
Herald: Realized you couldn’t accomplish that?
A: Yeah, realized I couldn’t accomplish that, so teaching is the next best thing.
Q8. Are you a pirate, a ninja or a hall monitor?
A: In my heart, I’m a pirate. I think that probably describes me well. I never was a hall monitor, I talked too much in school.
Herald: Why would you be a pirate?
A: Pirates are fun, I like riding in boats. I never asked someone to walk the plank, but you never know. I’d love to carry a sword. I don’t have the body to be a ninja, and I’ve never looked good in a sash.
Q9. Daily Show or Colbert Report?
A: Colbert Report.
Herald: Why?
A: Um, I like satire and I think the Daily Show is more of Jon Stewart’s opinion, which is great, but I think Colbert is obviously spinning and poking fun at some of the news shows that are on today and that’s more comical to watch. It’s more enjoyable to watch.
Q10. Who has more career passing yards, Brett Favre or Dan Marino? (I have no idea who these people are.)
A: Oh, they’re football players. Who has the most?
Herald: That’s what the question says.
A: Lord, career passing yards … I grew up watching basketball … there aren’t any football teams to watch in Kentucky … except for Western Kentucky University … well now … I think Dan Marino probably. Sorry Brett. Probably Dan Marino because he was always shown making passes on “The Simpsons.” (Come on Chief, Favre has this one in the bag. He passed Marino in yards last season when he also passed his record for touchdown passes.)
