A Thousand Words

At the racetrack, Rita Cline is known as “Redneck Woman.”

On any given weekend, Cline, 31, of Bowling Green can be found racing her Chevrolet around the oval track at Beech Bend Raceway.

Cline talks to her car, named “Darlia” before each race. “I say to her, ‘Come on girl, we gotta go do this, we can do this,’” she said.

Along with her race team “Redneck Racin’,” Cline takes her modified street car to weekly stock car races at Beech Bend. She is second in points for this season.

“It’s a thrill,” Cline said. “My adrenaline gets to pumping when I’m out there because I want to win.”

Cline grew up around racing in Bowling Green. Her father, Richard Dickens, used to race. Now he comes to cheer her on. “I think it’s something in our blood,” she said.

Cline’s three children – whom she drove around in Darlia for nearly a decade before her husband converted it into a racing car- show their support at races with homemade signs, which read “Go Mom you can do it.”

Outside of the track Cline works at ShopNBC in Bowling Green. Otherwise she’s working on Darlia or watching Nascar on Sundays.

“I’d rather be doing this on a Friday night than anything,” Cline said.
