Athletics Director Wood Selig confirmed Monday that head basketball coach Darrin Horn will leave Western to accept the same position at the University of South Carolina.
The Daily Gamecock, South Carolina’s campus newspaper, reported that South Carolina Board of Trustees have been called to a meeting at 11 a.m. on Tuesday regarding athletic department personnel.
Selig said he had been contacted by South Carolina with an interest in talking to Horn about the vacancy.
Horn couldn’t be reached for comment and hasn’t spoken to the media since Western loss to UCLA on Thursday in the NCAA Tournament
Horn has three years left on his contract with Western. If he leaves early his contract requires a $200,000 buyout and that his new team must play Western in a four-year home-and-home series.
Horn replaces Dave Odom at South Carolina, who retired at the end of the season.
Horn became a target for open coaching vacancies after he lead the Toppers to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 1993.
