Texting Madness
Senior guard Ty Rogers got his fair share of text messages, receiving nearly 175 text messages. Coach Darrin Horn called his number, “a bunch.” Horn said the ones that stick out are the ones that are from fellow coaches. Horn heard from Marquette coach Tom Crean and former Western coach Ralph Willard.
“I think those in a lot of ways mean as much as anything because those guys know the price you pay is what you’re going through,” Horn said.
San Diego coach Bill Grier said he got a few, and the Torero’s hero, De’Jon Jackson, who hit the game winning shot on Friday for San Diego said his amount didn’t match Rogers 172.
“I never had that many text messages in one day,” Jackson said. “So it was kind of fun. But 172, I don’t think I got that many.”
That’s going to leave a mark
In the process of reading those numerous messages, Horn was walking and looking down at his phone and accidentally ran into a door, leaving a decent sized cut towards the top of Horn’s nose. Horn remained in good spirits about the accident Friday though.
“I wish I could say I hit it on the rim trying to dunk in practice today,” Horn said. “I did try to dunk, I didn’t get one down today. No, I just ran into a door, which was a little bit goofy.
Quote of the Day
That award goes to freshman forward D.J. Magley, he was talking about how fellow teammate junior guard Desire Gabou is engaged to his sister, Jennifer Magley. He also set up junior center Japeth Aguilar with his other sister, Jessica. But as for D.J.’s relationship status, he’s single.
“Naw, every girlfriend I try, he always takes them,” Magley said pointing to freshman guard Steffphon Pettigrew. The statement got those around Magley laughing.
