International Flavor
Tomorrow’s first-round match-up will have a total of seven international student athletes competing. Representing Western will be senior forward Nadege Muna, a student athlete from Cameroon.
For the Miners, guard Kasia Krezel, center Izabela Piekarska, and guard Joanna Zalesiak originate from Poland. Forward Claudia Porras is from Bolivia, Sviatlana Trukshanina is from Belarus, and forward Ilda Chambe is from Mozambique.
Once a Topper
The fan base for the Lady Toppers at their open practice session was understandably sparse, but one former alumnus made his way out to see the Lady Toppers work out.
Willie Taggart was a running back on the Hilltopper football team from 1995-1998. While on the team he amassed the second highest rushing yards of any Western back.
Now Taggart is an assistant coach with the Stanford football team, and stopped in Maples Pavilion to watch the Lady Toppers practice.
Sitting this one out
Senior forward Charlotte Marshall still wore a brace on the left knee she injured in the last game of the regular season, but looked more mobile than she had during the conference tournament.
Missing the bulk of the open practice was junior forward Dominique Duck, who was named MVP of the Sun Belt Conference tournament. She has been suffering from an illness and was kept out most of the practice.
