The men’s lacrosse team traveled to Ohio State where they played five games over the course of Friday and Saturday.
The team’s lone win came in the second game on Saturday, as junior Adam Hollmeyer scored four goals to lead Western over Akron, 7-2.
“We should have won a few more games, but it was a long drive and we had only a few practices,” senior Matt Hunter said. “I think we bonded really well, though.”
The women’s lacrosse team was scheduled to play two games at Indiana University over the weekend, but inclement weather prevented the team’s match with Butler. The team was able to complete its match with Cincinnati, losing 9-8 to finish out the season.
Junior Jennie Blair scored all but one goal for Western.
“This was our first season in the women’s regional lacrosse league,” senior Sarah Czyz said. “For being a first year team we were still able to be competitive and were able to win some games.”
The men’s rugby team also saw some action over the weekend, defeating Fort Campbell 15-13 at Western’s intramural complex on a last-second conversion by junior William Compton.
Senior captain Morgan Crigger said the game was close throughout.
“We had a really good team effort, and everybody played really hard,” he said.
The fencing club hosted the “Battle of the Commonwealth” on Saturday. Western swept the sabre division, took second place in the epee division and had two tie for third in the foil competition.
