UPDATE: Martin arrangements set, driver arraigned

The woman who was driving the truck that fatally injured the chairman of the Board of Regents was arraigned this morning, and herpreliminary trial date was set.

Mickey L. Mosher, 54, of Warsaw, Ind., is being held in the Logan County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond after she was arraigned in Logan County District Court today, Logan County Sheriff Wallace Whittaker said. Her preliminary hearing will take place on Thursday at 1 p.m.

Mosher’s truck collided with Regents Chairman Cornelius Martin and Bowling Green residents Alton B. Mitchell II and Charles W. Leachman at about 10:28 a.m. Saturday. The three men were riding motorcycles on U.S. Highway 79 about two miles south of Russellville.

Mitchell and Martin were pronounced dead at the scene from injuries resulting from the accident. Leachman was taken to Vanderbilt Trauma Center in Nashville.

Mosher was charged with two counts of second degree manslaughter, first degree assault, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

President Gary Ransdell informed faculty and staff Monday about funeral and memorial arrangements for Martin and future plans for the Board of Regents.

In an e-mail sent to faculty and staff, Ransdell said the Board of Regents will take action during its June 16 meeting to vote on the appointment of Earl Fischer as the new chairman. Fischer is currently serving as vice chair.

Randsell also praised Martin for his work at Western and throughout Kentucky. He was on the Board of Regents for 12 years, and was chairman for two terms, the e-mail stated. Visitation for Martin will be from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby and Sons Funeral Chapel on Lovers Lane. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Living Hope Baptist Church.

A campus memorial for Martin is tentatively scheduled for 8 a.m. on July 21 at Guthrie Tower, pending communication with the family, the e- mail stated.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to the WKU Foundation for the Martin Scholarship Fund.
