IN MEMORY: Rich ‘always brightened the mood’

Jamie Rich’s friends remember her as a thoughtful person who loved to laugh.

It’s what her friend, Louisville sophomore Lacey Holman, said she would miss most about her.

“You couldn’t not laugh when you heard her laughing,” Holman said in an e-mail.

Rich, a former Western student from Scottsville, died on Tuesday from injuries resulting from a car accident, Allen County Coroner Mike Wimpee said.

She was 19 years old.

The 1999 Dodge Avenger she was driving was struck on the driver’s side when she attempted to cross an intersection at Britni Drive and U.S. 231, according to a Kentucky State Police report.

The driver of the 1998 Land Rover that hit Rich’s car tried to brake and steer toward the median to avoid a collision, the report said. The vehicles collided and stopped in the median.

Rich was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car, who was a minor, refused treatment at the scene, according to the report.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the report stated.

Rich enrolled at Western last semester as a freshman, but left to attend cosmetology school, said Bowling Green freshman Zach Lindsey, a friend of Rich.

Lindsey met Rich when she was a receptionist where his father works, he said.

“She was a real fun girl,” he said. “She always brightened the mood in most situations.”

Holman met Rich through mutual friends when Holman transferred from the University of Kentucky this semester.

She said the two enjoyed going to concerts, attending parties and spending time together.

“I could sit and talk to her for hours,” Holman said.

Rich was full of life, and Holman never saw her friend in a bad mood, she said.

Rich was a student at the Lindsey Institute of Cosmetology in Bowling Green and a member of Old Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, according to her obituary.

Rich is survived by her parents, James Kevin Rich and Patricia Long Eden of Scottsville; her sister, Melissa Rich; her stepfather, Billy Eden; and extended family.

A funeral service and visitation will take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Goad Funeral Home in Scottsville. She will be buried at Allen County Memorial Gardens.
