Bowling Green junior Alex Hall performs a snare drum solo titled “PASIC Special #8″ among the sounds of jazz, classical and reggae at the 11th annual Prism Concert. An hour before the show, dozens of people were lined up in the lobby of Van Meter Auditorium to see the 27 instrumental and vocal ensembles perform. Once the crowd settled in, the curtains rose and the audience was greeted with “Fat Pickin’s” offered by Western’s Symphonic Band. One of the audience’s favorite performances was from a percussion ensemble called Red Hot Steel that played a variety of high-energy Jamaican tunes. At the conclusion of the show, a group of high schoolers approached Mark Berry, assistant professor of percussion, and asked how they could be part of Red Hot Steel.
