I recently read a letter submitted to the Herald which claimed an intramural conspiracy. It is my opinion that this letter could not be further from the truth, and your readers would be wise to discredit this blatant display of poor class. And it shouldn’t be hard for them to do this when you realize this letter was nothing more than a blind rant filled with nothing but propaganda and contradictions.
The whole letter essentially bashes the intramural officials at WKU, however the letter begins with, “If I had a dime for every time my flag football team had been messed over by the intramural staff, I’d have twenty cents.” While I do not claim to be a math major that to me means this individual has been “messed over” all of what, two times? The author of this letter then feels they lost their game on “a series of poor calls,” however he only mentions one call in the letter. Which would then mean he was only on the end of one other poor call, based on the aforementioned 20 cent statement. Furthermore the author mentions playing this team the past two years, however this person is only a freshman, so how is that possible? He also seems to paint with a very broad brush when he claims “such convenient calls are the norm when competing against the intramural staff.” That is an awful bold statement for someone who has played this team one time, and has but one “bad call” to speak of.
The intramural officials at WKU put in long hours for little pay. Without them there wouldn’t be events like flag football for students to participate in. One thing that I feel is also important to note is Intramurals are not required at WKU, so if the author of the letter feels he has been part of such a huge injustice, or as he puts it “conspiracy,” perhaps he should consider not playing. Or even better since he seems to be such an expert on officiating perhaps he should sign up and share his great wisdom with the staff!!
