While reading the Herald the other day, I got the idea that smokers are complaining about designated smoking areas. Some stated that they had a right to the air just like everyone else. Well, it got me thinking.
I grew up in a house with no neighbors and it was the general presumption that urination (at least for boys) was something done outside, not inside. This was encouraged by my parents and I took the liberty to enjoy a “country pee” whenever possible. Now that I’ve grown up and have my own house in the city, I understand that a “country pee” has a place and that’s in the country. Of course, I also realize that there are what I like to call “designated potty areas” also known as toilets. I can no longer enjoy taking a leak on a tree, I am forced to use the bathroom. I wish I had it as simple as the smokers, at least they still have the freedom to do their thing in public. I, unfortunately, have been relegated to a private area where the fun of urination is completely gone.
At nothing else, it should be noted that urinating in public is much more natural than smoking. I don’t see why we can’t move urination back to nature, the way it should be. If we can have special reserved spots in public for an unnatural act, such as smoking, why can’t we have a designated public area for peeing? It just doesn’t seem fair.
