Turning on Green Lights
I have noticed that Southern Kentuckians do not seem to understand that they are allowed to wait in the intersection to make a turn if the light is green. It is OK to turn on a “green light, you don’t have to have a “Green Arrow Light.” If more people would drive instead of sit at green lights then maybe the traffic in this town wouldn’t be so bad. The traffic here is only bad because only a few people actually know the “Rules of the Road” – page 12 in the Kentucky Driving Manual. I recommend everyone get a copy and read it. So, to help everyone out I supplied you all with the necessary literature on the subject.
A “Red Light” without a green arrow means “stop” behind a crosswalk or stop line until the green light appears. You may turn right after stopping if there is no approaching traffic, unless a sigh posted by city, county, Department of Highways, prohibits such right turns. Even though the light is red, a turn is permitted from a one-way street into the nearest lane of another one-way street running in the direction of that turn.
A “Yellow Light” means the traffic signal is about to turn red. Stop if you can do so safely. A vehicle may clear an intersection on a red light if the vehicle entered the intersection while the signal was yellow or green, but it is against the law to enter an intersection after the light turns red.
A “Green Light” means the intersection is open. Vehicles turning left must yield to vehicles going straight, but you are allowed to pull into the intersection.
