reek Events Day isn’t the only reason for students to congregate on DUC South Lawn this week.
For Pride Week, there are a slew of events that will recognize the support of those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning.
The Outlet Alliance, an organization supporting GLBTQ individuals, had its third anniversary celebration on Monday to kick off the week, followed by yesterday’s National Day of Silence.
Live bands will play for the duration of the fifth annual Diversity Rocks event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
The bands scheduled to perform are Chest Rockwell, Third Season, The New Eclectics and Mark Beagle, in that order.
Students will also enjoy free hot dogs and drinks, and many organizations will be giving away merchandise and information from booths.
This year the event is sponsored by Campus Activities Board, the University Bookstore and the Outlet Alliance.
Bowling Green freshman and Outlet member Daniel Vincent provided information about Pride Week to students at a table in Downing University Center Wednesday afternoon.
Since 2001, Diversity Rocks has been a celebration of every form of human diversity on this campus, whether it be race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, disability or age, Vincent said.
Diversity Rocks is the last event before this weekend’s Come Together Kentucky statewide conference, the grand finale of Pride Week. It begins on Friday and will continue through Sunday.
“It’s a social event where we promote diversity and fun, and make sure everyone learns,” Vincent said of Diversity Rocks.
