I was wondering if you would run the following article in the paper to announce this wonderful event that is happening in LaRue County. We need to get this message to the masses to make this a successful reunion.
I was also wondering if you could put our meeting in your monthly events calendar, we meet every Tuesday Night at 6:30 at the LaRue County High School Library or Band Room.
ARTICLE (296 words) is as follows:
I have been asked to take this time to tell you about a wonderful opportunity that is before us in the LaRue County Community. This coming school year (2005~2006), LaRue County will celebrate 50 years of organized music in the Band Program. Our excitement and our expectations have grown; we have been meeting once a week, we are trying to get people to serve on committees. We have decided on a few dates and activities already – August 13th for a Grand Picnic to reunite all past / present and possibly future LaRue County Band Members for a day of reminiscing, October 8th – Lincoln Days Contest Recognition. Other events are also being discussed.
We are in the process of contacting all the previous LaRue County Band Directors and Asst. Band along with all students from the Classes of 1955 through 2005. We know that there was an after school band program prior to 1955 and those members are invited to attend this celebration. We are looking for Past LaRue County Band Uniforms / Rifles / Trophies / Band Jackets / Pictures / anything for each Band Era (50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s) to display during a Memory Lane gathering in the Old LaRue County High School. The LaRue County Band Boosters have voted to have a piece of music written to commemorate this special event – the band would perform this music for years to come. A special notation will be added to the music as a dedication of this 50-year celebration.
Our next meeting is Tuesday at 6:30pm in the LaRue County High School Library – contact Mr. Mitchell at the LaRue County High School Band Room for more details:
Sincerely,
Rick Wheeler
