Dear Editor,
I want to complain about the parking situation on campus during the 4th regional boy’s high school tournament last week at Diddle and parking in general.
I was walking to DUC for a meeting on a Monday night. I was appalled at what I saw. There were cars parked in front of Academic Complex, on the sidewalk. I thought maybe they have a ticket. Did they?? NO!!! of course not, they aren’t Western students. If a student would have parked there, they would have gotten a ticket/possibly towed.
They closed the parking structure to where students with a blue parking permit could not get in. We pay $65 to park here and we can not even park where our parking permit allows us. Western could allow students with a blue permit into the structure during this special event and then charge to people without a permit.
Each student is assigned a color parking permit according to where they live. Teachers are assigned a parking permit. If a student parks in a teacher’s zone they receive a ticket for parking in the wrong zone. On the other hand if a teacher parks in a student’s zone they don’t receive a ticket. Why?
Western had a parking forum on March 7th at 12:30pm. Most students are in class then and wouldn’t be able to attend. Why not try and have it at time that would bring in students?
This issue needs to be looked at for all Western students who park on campus.
