hanks to her mother, Brooke Timmons knows what she’ll be when she grows up.
The Louisville freshman plans to do page layout and design in Vogue and InStyle magazines. She came to Western to study photojournalism.
Her mother, Carol Timmons, is the editor of Business First, a weekly business journal in Louisville. She has worked there since Timmons was 2, and said that Brooke has grown up around Business First. “I don’t know if it planted a seed,” Timmons said.
Timmons worked on her high school yearbook and her adviser went to Western, which is one of the reasons she came to the school. She also came for the photojournalism program.
“It’s more work than I thought but not as hard as I thought it would be,” she said of the program. Timmons recently took a road trip to Shakertown to take pictures for her basic photography class.
Her mother said that she believes her daughter will be successful in her career choice. She said that Timmons was asking her questions about a project, and when she told her publisher about it the next day, he said that those were the kind of questions she should be asking.
“Brooke has a lot of good insights,” she said. “I consider her one of my best advisers.”
Taking pictures and dreaming of the future aren’t the only things that Timmons has done in her short time at Western. She plans to join a sorority in the spring. She also said she likes to shop and hang out with her roommate, freshman Sarah Collins, whom she knew in high school.
The two live on the end of the fifth floor of McCormack Hall, and have decorated their room with fluffy throw rugs and a life size Orlando Bloom poster. Collins said Timmons is a great roommate.
Timmons has the support of her mother in anything she does with her life. In fact, her mother thinks she’ll go above and beyond her expectations.
“One day she’ll probably be my boss,” she said.
